My Favorite Places to Eat in South Africa 🍴🇿🇦
From a Girl Who’s Been Here Since 2012
If you know me, you know I love good food. Like really good food. And growing up in South Africa since 2012 has definitely spoiled me when it comes to amazing places to eat. Whether I’m craving something cozy, boujee, or just super satisfying, there’s always a spot that hits the mark. I thought it’d be fun to round up some of my absolute favorite food spots in and around Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Camps Bay, and the Waterfront—my go-to places that feel like home (and taste like heaven).

🍇 Stellenbosch Staples
This town is full of charm, vineyards, and lowkey chef’s kiss food.
- Schoon – I swear their sourdough is life-changing. Whether it’s a croissant for breakfast or their avo toast with perfectly poached eggs, Schoon is a forever fave.
- Java Café – This place is such a vibe. Right on Church Street, their pizza and milkshakes? Unreal. It’s a perfect chill spot with friends after a day in town.
- Tokara – Okay, this is more on the fancy side, but it’s 100% worth it. The views are insane, and their tasting menu is a whole experience. Great for a birthday or something special.
🌊 Cape Town Musts
Cape Town has my heart—and my stomach.
- The Pot Luck Club – Everything here is shareable and SO flavorful. The views, the vibe, the food… 10/10. Pro tip: book way ahead!
- Kloof Street House – It feels like you’re eating in a secret garden. Super aesthetic, with fairy lights and everything. Their steaks and cocktails are next level.
- Unframed Ice Cream – I will never say no to a scoop of their matcha or vegan chocolate. It’s not just dessert—it’s an art form.
🌅 Camps Bay Chill Spots
This place is unreal at sunset. Literally postcard-perfect.
- Café Caprice – A Camps Bay classic. Think casual drinks, beach views, and burgers that just hit right after a beach day.
- The 41 – Their seafood pasta is everything. It’s also a great spot to people-watch while soaking in the golden hour.
- Codfather – If you love sushi or seafood (or both!), this place is where dreams come true. You pick your own fresh fish and they grill it right there. So good.
🚤 V&A Waterfront Faves
Touristy? Yes. Overrated? Not at all.
- Willoughby & Co – Hands down, best sushi in Cape Town. Don’t let the fact that it’s in a mall fool you—it’s legendary. Always packed, always worth the wait.
- Vovo Telo – Such a good brunch or coffee stop. Their pastries are top tier, and their open sandwiches are a go-to for me.
- Den Anker – Belgian-style food right by the water, with Table Mountain in the background. I usually get the mussels and fries—simple and so satisfying.
🫶 Final Thoughts
South Africa is a foodie’s paradise, and I’m so grateful I got to grow up in a place with such amazing flavors, views, and memories. Whether it’s grabbing a pastry on the go or sitting down for a full-on five-course dinner, these places have been part of my story. If you ever visit (or live here too), you’ve got to try some of these spots. And if you do, let me know—I’ll happily tag along 😄
